Image result for peer mentoring

Objective

Peer mentoring is a relationship between people who are at the same career stage or age, in which one person has more experience than the other in a particular domain and can provide support as well as knowledge and skills transfer. Peer mentoring relaxes the traditionally rigid lines between mentor and mentee for a more even playing field.

Reflective

When I started my part time job in Roots in September after I came to Canada. I was mentored and coached by the co-workers in the store. I am a new learner, so my co-workers showed me around the environment first. In the first day, there are different co-workers that I asked help to. Each of co-worker shows me different notices that i need to mind in my heart. No matter knowledge, skills, and perspective, they convey little by little and day by day to me. Although it is a little chaos in the beginning, I still try to manage and stand still on my progress.  It is very helpful and useful for me to get the information from colleagues. We support each other and exchange the practical information we need in the workplace. At the same time, I can also pass the skills, knowledge and concept to working in Roots to new staffs after I become skillful and have competence to guide the new colleagues. It is a responsibility as well as spread the spirit of unselfish devotion.

Interpretative

Peer mentoring starts to be a trend right now because it jumps out of the traditional teacher-student mentoring. It doesn't exist the level chain to limit the relationship between the same level. However, it starts on the premise that both of groups should be on the same page so that they can have a fair communication. I think this method do help me improve my ability no matter on personal development or my work life. I would like to upgrade myself in a relaxing environment. I believe that I will absorb more new stuffs as I can in a better condition.

Decisional

I will continue executing peer mentoring on my path. After graduating from college, there will be no longer teacher-student mentoring except I attend another college. During working period, it will tend to be peer mentoring or superior's instruction. Also, I believe that peer mentoring can also boost the relationship between people and create long-term development in my life.
